PRODUCTION NOTES
We all have our own journeys. They are our own paths that we walk along, where we declare who we are in the moment, reflect on how we got there, prepare for the change, and eventually realize who we can become. becoming is a reflection of these twists and turns. The achievement of goals beyond what one could have possibly dreamed.becoming is a show in four movements, each one aligning with part of the journey of change.declaration, a formal announcement. An insistent flute opens with a statement that quickly spreads around to the full woodwind choir, as the mellophone section takes the melodic lead. Flourishes occur throughout as the full ensemble comes in to establish who and what they are. Ostinato percussion leads into the second half of the movement, where sections trade melodic lines and virtuosic phrases, building to a restatement of the full ensemble moment.reflection, giving serious and careful thought and consideration. Long phrases abound, providing excellent opportunities to show off different textures in the winds, as the ensemble begins to reflect on their place in the world. Is there true happiness to be found in staying where they are? Or could they push to become greater than they could imagine?preparation, the action or process of making one ready. The choice has been made. Time to take that next step. Find the limits. Push past. This movement is all about how to shake loose the things weighing the ensemble down. Leave behind everything that holds them back.realization, the fulfillment or achievement of something anticipated. The climactic restatement of the first full ensemble moment is the peak of this final movement, bringing back the familiar theme, transformed into something new, greater than the sum of its parts. Our journey has come to its conclusion. The ensemble has learned and becomes a better version of itself.
