PRODUCTION NOTES
Take a step in time with 17 Cherry Tree Lane, a modern look at one of the most iconic films ever made. The music of the Sherman Brothers, Thomas Newman, Rihanna, and Edward Elgar are used to invoke childhood memories of Umbrellas and Nannies, Lampposts and Chimney sweeps, and Kites galore. We start out on the streets of London, winds blowing from the east, as the front ensemble intones the classic “Chim Chim Cher-ee”, setting the stage for what is to come. A sonic whirlwind begins with the woodwinds, as the audience is then treated to the gorgeous score from Disney’s Saving Mr. Banks, as well as Elgar’s Enigma Variations.Things slow down as “Feed The Birds (Tuppence a Bag)” opens the next movement, with small ensembles bringing attention to the intimate staging. The brass then takes center stage as the musical line slowly morphs into Rihanna’s hit “Umbrella”, invoking the quintessential symbol of the beloved nanny, before coming to a soft ending. To finish off the production, a percussion feature builds up to the hit song “Step in Time” and then a big, bold rendition of “Let’s Go Fly A Kite” leads us into an exhilarating ending, where colors abound, kites take flight and a sense of childhood wonder that leaves audiences begging for more!
